Holistic medicine is a broad term which encompasses many different non-traditional treatment methods. A partial list of methods within the category of Holistic medicine includes: Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Applied Kinesthesiology, Homeopathy, Bach Flower Essences, Orthomolecular Medicine, Nutritional Medicine, Aromatherapy, Chiropractic, Therapeutic massage, etc. The specific methods that Dr. Cohen feels have the most compelling evidence for effectiveness and which he has had the opportunity to receive formal training or engage in substantial additional study are: Acupuncture; Nutritional Medicine; and Herbal Medicine. These are the primary methods he uses for some patients, of course after consulting with and receiving permission to do so from their owners, to supplement our conventional medical treatments. In a number of circumstances, a combination of Traditional Medical methods and one or more of the Holistic Medical methods are the overall most effective approach to restoring and/or maintaining optimal health for our patients.

Dr Cohen has been practicing Acupuncture since receiving advanced training at Colorado State's Veterinary School in 2000. He uses several different types of Acupuncture including: dry needling, aquapuncture, and electroacupuncture. One of his favorite applications for this treatment method is treating painful conditions, both acute and chronic - especially from conditions such as arthritis.

Nutritional medicine refers to the use of nutritional supplements to aid the body's healing response and ability to stay healthy and function optimally. There are numerous examples in which this would be considered. One common example is for treating the development of senility in older pets. Fortunately in our pets, we can often transform them from confused and disoriented to closely approximating their previous personality for a significant time by employing this treatment method.

With Dr. Cohen's knowledge and expertise, both Western and Eastern (Chinese) Herbal remedies or fomulas are utilized here at Anthem Pet Medical Center for selected medical conditions to broaden our array of potential healing capabilities.
